grrrls and video games

and of late, i have been playing either online games or pc games or games on my itouch. i usually just play the word ones but i've become enamored of a couple of other ones. i sure as shite don't think they're gender specific do you?

(these are a couple i've downloaded and play all of the time. i'm NOT including the spelling or word games which i play MORE of)

p.s. i have few if any issues with what ms laurel is saying by the way.

(itouch ones): doodle jump
(when i saw this dude got 100,000 i was impressed. then i saw he got over a MILLION. dang, i'm NO WHERE near that)

edge by mobigame (due to legal action by a giant gatsu piedi, i don't think edge is available for the time being. if it becomes available again GET IT. not only is it lovely to look at, it's challenging and fun AND frustrating)

spider, the secret of bryce manor

hi how are you

i don't have it BUT i sure do have a hankerin' to play (are you sitting down???) l4d

Making Video Games for Little Girls

by lisa
In this video, Brenda Laurel discusses her successful computer game for girls. Detailing extensive research on what girls want, Laurel then shows us a some interviews with girls and a bit of the resulting video game, Rocket, which seems to focus heavily on navigating complicated high school relationships. Laurel says that all critics love her game except the “male gamer who thinks he knows what games ought to be” and “a certain flavor of feminists who thinks they know what little girls ought to be.”........

Actually, phone games and puzzle games such as those you listed are considered girly games because they are less gendered, and women play them in larger numbers than they play games on consoles and big-budget, mainstream PC games. It's a joke among gamers that women only play the games you listed, i.e. "not real games" - and game companies take this as gospel, and use it as an excuse to keep console games sexist.
