Long ago as a teenager I first heard of mama africa (that's how I thought it was spelled) while laying in bed and listening to my Radio Shack shortwave radio to a radio show from the Caribbean. Those rhythms and sounds touched me somewhere deep in my soul that was unusual for a Southern country boy.
She was so amazing.
b b, i've seen it spelled both ways. the nyt spells it "c" the more ummmmmm left of center periodicals spell it with a 'k'.
but both b b and mariamariauchita, she really was an influence on me. my taste in music and my fascination with other lands
her music just made you get up and move. you could NOT simply sit there
