the second season of

this american life is up on demand on showtime

well, three episodes are. i watched them all yesterday, in a row. they're only 1/2 hour long but i'm telling you, they ALL feel like they're HOURS LONG (in a GOOD way that is) yet, you still CRAVE MORE. they're PACKED full. full of every day life yet full of wonder and awe and amazement and joy and pity and empathy.

i don't understand how people can watch steaming shite like big brother or survivor or american idol or the mole or deal or no deal or the bachelor or kid nation or fear factor or farmer wants a wife or anything featuring donald trump
the first episode (of season two) featured a mother / son relationship. the son wanted to move out of his mother's home. there is something out of the ordinary about their relationship though
the second episode featured, 'talk to an iraqi'. a young iraqi man happened to immigrate to america a few years back. he had some questions about why his country was invaded by us. he traveled across the country (america) and set up a little booth with a sign overhead which said, 'talk to an iraqi'. some people you wanted to slap, some you wanted to shake, some you wanted to yell, 'don't you understand', some you wanted to kiss on the cheek, some you wanted to hug. then there was that 11 year old girl. i think her name was tory. not sure. i'll have to watch it again. they said her name, then they said she was home schooled. 'uh oh' i thought to myself. we're in for a load of crap being parroted out of her mouth. turns out i couldn't be more wrong. turns out she made me cry with the first words that came out of her mouth. turns out her father is in iraq (in the army). turns out i was moved beyond words. turns out i was stunned by her intelligence, her morality, her sincerity her depth of knowledge. turns out i have a new hero
