'Safest' seat remarks gets Muslim family kicked off plane

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A Muslim family removed from an airliner Thursday after passengers became concerned about their conversation say AirTran officials refused to rebook them, even after FBI investigators cleared them of wrongdoing.

Atif Irfan said federal authorities removed eight members of his extended family and a friend after passengers heard them discussing the safest place to sit and misconstrued the nature of the conversation.

Irfan, a U.S. citizen and tax attorney, said he was "impressed with the professionalism" of the FBI agents who questioned him, but said he felt mistreated when the airline refused to book the family for a later flight.

AirTran Airways late Thursday said they acted properly and that the family was offered full refunds and can fly with AirTran again.

"AirTran Airways complied with all TSA, law enforcement and Homeland Security directives and had no discretion in the matter," the company said in a prepared statement.

Family members disagreed.

"The FBI agents actually cleared our names," said Inayet Sahin, Irfan's sister-in-law. "They went on our behalf and spoke to the airlines and said, 'There is no suspicious activity here. They are clear. Please let them get on a flight so they can go on their vacation,' and they still refused."

"The airline told us that we can't fly their airline," Irfan said...........

a thought or two-actually a real raving in this case

my friend cv rick sent me a very disturbing email. he warned me and said he was torn about sending it (i'm NOT linking to it nor am i going to post it). i told rick he did the right thing by sending it and at the moment, i had nothing to say (because i felt like my soul was being stabbed a million times). the image involved barack obama and a noose and ugly words and thoughts. (cv rick has an amazing blog. in his rather young life, he's lived things the rest of us have only dreamed. plus he writes a DAMN FINE STORY - both fiction and non-fiction. he's not been updating his blog of late, but i hope that changes soon. please go visit him and read some of his older postings and the serializations of some of his (true) tales. it will be worth it and you'll thank me)

i also saw another incredibly disturbing image on
roschelle's blog - sagacious rambling

that one wasn't as violent but it had potential (to be)

i know the people who are responsible for the ugly words and the ugly images are beyond clueless. they have NO idea what they're doing is just plain WRONG. it's WRONG. that seems too easy, but that's it. simply WRONG.

these are the SAME kinds of people who think it's funny to let's say, talk about rape and hurting women. the same kind of person who talks about hanging a man because of the color of his skin can and does write articles like the one i talked about
here (i'm not talking about JUST men either. women can have evil ugly souls and speak evil ugly words and have evil ugly thoughts too)

THEY DON'T GET IT. rape is just about as funny as hanging a black man is. i don't care if you don't like barack obama or not. BUT DISLIKE HIM BECAUSE OF HIS POLITICS NOT THE COLOR OF HIS SKIN.

they are not only NOT ashamed of their actions and words and images THEY ARE PROUD OF THEM. they do NOT understand how hurtful they are. they don't CARE to understand.

why are they so consumed with fear?

(and, not only don't they think they are doing wrong, BUT THEY TURN AROUND AND CONTINUE TO ACCUSE OBAMA OF THINGS HE NEVER DID OR NEVER WAS OR NEVER WILL BE)

UPDATE: i just saw this from stephen at drinking liberally in new milford . he has actually posted the picture rick sent me. he also is far more articulate than i and wrote one hell of a posting on the subject.

the worst part isn't that he said this

it's that he's still on the air (i don't want him or them censored. what i want is people to stop being dopes and NOT LISTEN or TUNE INTO these horrid beings). that he still has an audience. same goes for flush limburger, dill o'wrongly and the giant blond haired skinny mantis creature

On the October 10 broadcast of his nationally syndicated Fox News Radio show, while discussing 14-year-old Asa H. Coon, who earlier that day shot four people at his Cleveland high school before killing himself, Fox News host John Gibson asserted that "because the school is very heavily African-American, I did leap to a conclusion" that "the shooter might have been African-American." Gibson went on to say that he "knew this was not a classic hip-hop shooting" once he learned Coon killed himself. Gibson continued: "Hip-hoppers do not kill themselves. They walk away. Now, I didn't need to hear the kid was white with blond hair. Once he'd shot himself in the head, no hip-hopper." Gibson later stated, "I know the shooter was white. I knew it as soon as he shot himself. Hip-hoppers don't do that. They shoot and move on to shoot again." Gibson added: "I know there's a few of you who want to call me racist. But when you do, remind -- let me remind you, African-Americans are dying in major cities because people won't face this problem."......

i'm NOT racist

why some of my best friends are.............................(fill in the blank)

Student tells paper she's sorry for 'Jena 6' re-enactment
CNN) -- A student who videoed a re-enactment of the "Jena 6" incident apologized and said the video was not intended to make fun of the six black students arrested in the beating of a white classmate, according to The News-Star newspaper of Monroe, Louisiana.........
...........In a Tuesday interview with the News-Star, a tearful Smith denied being racist.
"This is so not me," she said in the Wednesday article. "It wasn't that we were making fun of the Jena 6 incident. We were just fed up with it ... I have just as many black [friends] as I do white friends...............

what have i discovered about humanity? i think we are ALL racist and prejudiced about something or someone or another. instead of denying it, let's just say, 'what can i do to change my perception(s), to change my outlook'? (after all they ARE just perceptions and outlooks)

even in this day and age, if you think we're all equal

you are sadly mistaken. i do NOT want to take anything away from all of those who have disappeared or their families.

why is it when a white college student disappears, hundreds including the police look for them 24/7? why is it when a young black man, still a teenager, disappears for EIGHT DAYS the police look for him six or seven days later FOR ONE AND A HALF HOURS IN THE DARKNESS OF NIGHT?

why?

Bowie Student Trapped 8 Days Details Pain, Survival Tactics

By Avis Thomas-Lester Washington Post Staff Writer
As Julian McCormick recalls it, he lay in and out of consciousness for eight days and seven nights, hot, sticky and bloody with not a clue as to what day it was or how he ended up trapped in his overturned car at the bottom of a steep embankment in Prince George's County.
To survive, he ate a fish he caught with his hands and used his high-top sneaker to drink water from the creek, the 18-year-old
Bowie State University student told his parents.......

can't say what happened as i wasn't there, but i'll bet my big fat ass, NOTHING happened. people were just being id-jits about having arabic men aboard an airplane

duh!

it's not like we needed a study to tell us blacks received inferior treatment (in this case MEDICAL) than whites. it's obvious. the issue shouldn't be that they DO get inferior treatment, it should be HOW CAN WE REPAIR THIS INJUSTICE?

Tests of ER trainees find signs of race bias in care
Study seeks root of known disparityz

By Stephen Smith, Globe Staff
Deeply imbedded attitudes about race influence the way doctors care for their African- American patients, according to a Harvard study that for the first time details how unconscious bias contributes to inferior care.
Researchers have known for years that African-Americans in the midst of a heart attack are far less likely than white patients to receive potentially life-saving treatments such as clot-busting drugs, a dramatic illustration of America's persistent healthcare disparities. But the reasons behind such stark gaps in care for heart disease, as well as cancer and other serious illnesses, have remained murky, with blame fixed on doctors, hospitals, and insurance plans.
In the new study, trainee doctors in Boston and Atlanta took a 20-minute computer survey designed to detect overt and implicit prejudice. They were also presented with the hypothetical case of a 50-year-old man stricken with sharp chest pain; in some scenarios the man was white, while in others he was black.
"We found that as doctors' unconscious biases against blacks increased, their likelihood of giving [clot-busting] treatment decreased," ............
