if you are donating to a veteran's charity

or a veteran's organization, BE CAREFUL. do a bit of research BEFORE you give (that's good advice for ANY donation you make by the way to ANY cause)

your money may not be going where you think it is
(there's a link in the article itself to the veteran's charity grades)
Failing to Serve America's Heroes on the Home Front
Brian Ross and Rhonda Schwartz Report:
In the last two years, generous Americans answering appeals to help wounded and paralyzed veterans have given more than $464 million to charities that have been given an F in a new report card from a leading charity watchdog group.
Those failing charities include the National Veterans Services Fund, of Darien, Conn., which took in more than $6 million in contributions last year supposedly to help veterans' families.
It got a report grade of F from the American Institute of Philanthropy, which says the charity gave out only two percent of its money for charity............

.................As the founder of a charity called Help Hospitalized Veterans, which distributes craft kits to veterans' hospitals, Roger Chapin of San Diego pays himself and his wife more than half a million dollars a year in salary.
Charity is his business. Over the last three decades, Chapin has created more than a dozen different charities for cancer, kids and veterans. ..........

this is what happens at puppy mills

please don't get a dog at a pet store. i'd even go so far as to say don't get a dog ANYWHERE but a shelter. there are purebreds a plenty there too you know. perhaps you don't get the papers, but why the hell would you need them? you're NOT going to breed those dogs of course, you're going to have them spayed or neutered (if they aren't already). this is dedicated to nancy who just last week lost her dog of 17 years. it's also dedicated to my but (big ugly thaing. sometimes that's what i called him. i did it because we both knew he really WASN'T ugly at all), my ranger danger (my little niece named him. well at the time she was little). we found ranger roaming around (my parents house). he was healthy and fed but FILTHY. my mom brought him in and he never left. he had to be part shepherd and part rottie. he was about 2 years old when we found him, give or take (according to the vet). my mom called all of the local vets in the area, the local shelters and put ads in the local paper. no one ever claimed him. he knew his basic sit and stay and paw type requests. he was loving and smart and funny. well loving to ONLY family members. when ANYONE and i mean ANYONE came over, we'd have to put ranger out on the porch or outside or even tie him up in the kitchen. he HATED ALL strangers. funny, he was so gentle with all of my sisters (at the time VERY YOUNG) children yet so vicious with outsiders. he never bit anyone when he was in our care. he WOULD have though. we just made sure he never had the chance. he was hand shy. someone must have beaten him badly. i don't know how people can do such things.

one day when he was outside (on a heavy chain. he only stayed out when he wanted to go out and he was immediately brought in at his FIRST bark) i happened to look out the kitchen window. i saw my parent's neighbor cross over into our yard. he was VERY ill at the time, terminal. i quickly dashed to the back door thinking i'd never stop the impending tragedy. by the time i had opened it, i saw ranger on his back on the ground letting the neighbor rub his belly. i never went outside. i just let ranger and my parent's neighbor bond. it was something they both needed i guess.

i guess i'll also dedicate this to my moms too (she has passed as well). ranger got very ill a couple of years after he adopted us. of course he was under a vet's care but when he was home, every evening at 10:00 my mother would peel him an apple and feed it to him along with a little vanilla ice cream. when i asked her why she gave him a peeled apple and vanilla ice cream every night at 10:00 she said, 'a rose is a rose, i do it because that's what HE LIKES'. looking at me as if i was an alien for not knowing that tidbit of info...........

anyway, i LOVE DOGS (i like all animals but i LOVE dogs). please adopt one (or a cat or a bird or a hampster or whatever) from a shelter in your area. they'll love you like you need to be loved

Dogs' Best Friends to the Rescue
Volunteers Rush to the Aid of Animals Seized at Suspected Va. Puppy Mill

By Annie Gowen and Donna St. George Washington Post Staff Writers
Some of the adult dogs arriving at the Montgomery County animal shelter Thursday acted like newborn pups with splayed legs, wobbly as they tried to walk. They had never been on solid ground.
At first, they didn't know how to eat from a bowl, so accustomed were they to the troughs at the puppy mill in southwestern
Virginia from which they had just been rescued. Several had matted hair around their eyes and couldn't see. The pads of their feet were sore or cut from being confined to wire cages.
When word of the dogs' plight surfaced this week on the Web site of the Humane Society of the United States -- that officials in Carroll County, Va., had seized nearly 1,000 dogs from a suspected puppy mill -- reaction from animal lovers was immediate and intense.
Volunteers from the Washington region joined others from
Florida and New York who streamed to the rural town of Hillsville near the North Carolina border. Families began calling to ask when they could adopt the dogs. Donations rolled in; PetSmart sent a trailer full of kibble and other supplies. .............

the tale of two rex humbards

it’s madonna and her kabbalah and tom cruise/john travolta/kirstie alley and their scientology, it’s radical muslims convincing young people to be suicide bombers for their god, it’s fundamentalist preachers like humbard. the leaders of these types of groups want one or both of two things: wealth and power. that’s it. that really IS it. and you know what? most of them are wickedly smart too. they know EXACTLY how to go about getting both of those things from certain segments of the public. how? it’s easy. we all have a little hole inside of ourselves. something that is missing. something that is NOT there. something lacking. something needing FILLING. And they are ALL right there ready to fill up our little holes to the brim. Ready to embrace us even if we’ve sinned – as LONG as we pledge our allegiance and/or our possessions to THEM. they find that speck inside of us that needs a caress. that needs a bit of reassurance. that needs coddling. THEY FIND IT AND THEY EXPLOIT IT. (note: some of us are stronger than others and recognize a good con when we see one - some of us can't see shite)

this is a long article but WELL WORTH THE READ:

Jesus for Sale
Meet the real Rex Humbard, the father of televised religious fraud.

By Denise Grollmus

It was the moment Rex Humbard had been waiting for — his final day of judgment, the moment he'd come face to face with the Lord he'd so passionately invoked for more than 60 years.
Since 1953, Humbard had appeared on television sets throughout the world, reaching more than 25 million viewers on over 2,000 stations in 92 languages. Always sporting a perfectly tailored three-piece suit and a well-coiffed do, he challenged faithful viewers, with his gap-toothed southern drawl, to consider their own day of divine scrutiny. How would they secure their place in heaven? ..........

......................Then, in the winter of 1953, Humbard had an epiphany.
He watched a crowd of Christmas shoppers gather around O'Neil's department-store window downtown. As they stood in the freezing cold, streetcars rattling loudly behind them, their eyes remained fixed on the flickering television screen. Humbard grasped the medium's power.
"To other people, television is a marvelous invention because it carries big news events, sports, and entertainment," he wrote. "To me, television is a gift from God, given to us so that we can use it to obey His great commandment to go forth into all of the world and preach the gospel."
That's when Humbard gave birth to televangelism. ............

now paaaaaaaaaaaaaleeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzz. i'm not even a fan of hillary but this is really scraping.
and does it surprise you FAUX 'NEWS' had a hand in the broadcast of this shite?
friday levity:

Fox News airs bizarre claim that Hillary ordered hit on cats
David Edwards and Jason Rhyne
Fox News on Wednesday aired a bizarre accusation that Sen. Hillary Clinton is connected with the murder of two cats.
Sen. Clinton's accuser is Kathleen Willey, the one-time White House aide who in 1993 claimed to have been groped by then-president Bill Clinton in the Oval Office. Willey raised the strange cat-killing allegation -- and a raft of others -- in her new book, Target: Caught in the Crosshairs of Bill and Hillary Clinton.
The Fox and Friends morning program detailed charges in the book that Willey's cat, Bullseye, was the victim of a targeted hit by a Clinton-hired henchman. .............

................"But it didn't stop there," said Fox News host Brian Kilmeade. "Does the name Fluffy mean anything to you? A year later she bought a cat, named it Fluffy. That cat ended up dead as well underneath the porch. She thinks somehow, and she claims somehow, the person who did this is linked back to Hillary."..................

Lawmakers Criticize FEMA's Handling of Hazards Posed by Trailers

By Spencer S. Hsu Washington Post Staff Writer
Nearly four months after the Federal Emergency Management Agency promised to study the risk of formaldehyde in trailers provided to Hurricane Katrina survivors, none of 52,000 occupied units have been tested, and FEMA has warned its employees for their own safety to stay out of 70,000 similar trailers in storage.
"This double-standard is wholly unacceptable,"
Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) said in a written statement, accusing FEMA of hiding the extent of trailer contamination and leaving "American disaster victims exposed to a whole new nightmare." .............

i was listening to

bbc world news on npr this morning and i heard some dude saying we were giving pakistan (well musharraf who then distributes it as HE sees fit. greasing palms and paying off soldiers so they won't turn against him and on and on) MILLIONS, HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars A MONTH. well, it was WICKEDLY EARLY and i thought i misheard all of that shite UNTIL, i came across this (and i wasn't even looking for it)

U.S. Aid to Musharraf is Largely Untraceable Cash Transfers
By Spencer Ackerman - November 7, 2007, 5:05PM
After Pervez Musharraf declared martial law this weekend, Condoleezza Rice vowed to review U.S. assistance to Pakistan, one of the largest foreign recipients of American aid. Musharraf, of course, has been a crucial American ally since the start of the Afghanistan war in 2001, and the U.S. has rewarded him ever since with over $10 billion in civilian and (mostly) military largesse. But, perhaps unsure whether Musharraf's days might in fact be numbered, Rice contended that the explosion of money to Islamabad over the past seven years was "not to Musharraf, but to a Pakistan you could argue was making significant strides on a number of fronts."
In fact, however, a considerable amount of the money the U.S. gives to Pakistan is administered not through U.S. agencies or joint U.S.-Pakistani programs. Instead, the U.S. gives Musharraf's government about $200 million annually and his military $100 million monthly in the form of direct cash transfers........

i'm stunned at my own ignorance. i had NO IDEA this was happening when i sure should have
and our veterans are homeless AND lacking care AND our children don't have health insurance OR enough educational supplies AND there are victims from coast to coast of natural disaster that have NEVER recovered and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and andand and and and and and and and and and and and and and...........

this should NOT be

well not just for veterans but for all. NO ONE should be homeless in america. especially those that served our country. how sad is this?

Study: 1 Out of 4 Homeless Are Veterans
By KIMBERLY HEFLING Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Veterans make up one in four homeless people in the United States, though they are only 11 percent of the general adult population, according to a report to be released Thursday.
And homelessness is not just a problem among middle-age and elderly veterans. Younger veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan are trickling into shelters and soup kitchens seeking services, treatment or help with finding a job.
The Veterans Affairs Department has identified 1,500 homeless veterans from the current wars and says 400 of them have participated in its programs specifically targeting homelessness............

Without irony, Fox commentators blast MSNBC's 'liberal slant'
David Edwards and Greg Wasserstrom
Tuesday morning, Fox & Friends decided to report on the purported liberal bias of MSNBC, based on reports that the NBC-owned channel had set out to hire left-leaning commentators for the sake of ratings and that the outspoken Rosie O'Donnell was being considered for a possible prime time show on MSNBC.
"Call me crazy, I majored in journalism, it's why I got into this business in the first point, and no news organization should have a political bent," opined guest Deborah Norville, a former news anchor for NBC News who currently hosts a syndicated news and entertainment show, and at one time hosted a program on MSNBC in the same time slot O'Donnell may soon take over.
"Sure," co-host Steve Doocy said in agreement...........

did anyone for ONE second

doubt the american government would find these blackwater sniper mercenaries NOT guilty? let's just say for the sake of argument they WERE found guilty....well if THAT did occur (which it NEVER would have) king george would have overruled everything and declared them sin-less JUST like scooter (who, to the best of my knowledge didn't actually pull a trigger on a rifle and blow off the top of someones head)

How Blackwater Sniper Fire Felled 3 Iraqi Guards
Witnesses Call Shooting From Justice Ministry Unprovoked, But State Dept. Cleared Its Security Team After a Brief Probe

By Steve Fainaru
Washington Post Foreign Service
BAGHDAD -- Last Feb. 7, a sniper employed by Blackwater USA, the private security company, opened fire from the roof of the Iraqi Justice Ministry. The bullet tore through the head of a 23-year-old guard for the state-funded Iraqi Media Network, who was standing on a balcony across an open traffic circle. Another guard rushed to his colleague's side and was fatally shot in the neck. A third guard was found dead more than an hour later on the same balcony.
Eight people who responded to the shootings -- including media network and Justice Ministry guards and an Iraqi army commander -- and five network officials in the compound said none of the slain guards had fired on the Justice Ministry, where a U.S. diplomat was in a meeting. An
Iraqi police report described the shootings as "an act of terrorism" and said Blackwater "caused the incident." The media network concluded that the guards were killed "without any provocation." .............

FBI Hoped to Follow Falafel Trail to Iranian Terrorists Here
By Jeff Stein, CQ National Security Editor
Like Hansel and Gretel hoping to follow their bread crumbs out of the forest, the FBI sifted through customer data collected by San Francisco-area grocery stores in 2005 and 2006, hoping that sales records of Middle Eastern food would lead to Iranian terrorists.
The idea was that a spike in, say, falafel sales, combined with other data, would lead to Iranian secret agents in the south San Francisco-San Jose area.
The brainchild of top FBI counterterrorism officials Phil Mudd and Willie T. Hulon, according to well-informed sources, the project didn’t last long. It was torpedoed by the head of the FBI’s criminal investigations division, Michael A. Mason, who argued that putting somebody on a terrorist list for what they ate was ridiculous — and possibly illegal.
A check of federal court records in California did not reveal any prosecutions developed from falafel trails. ........

GALLUP: Bush Finally Tops Nixon -- In Unpopularity -- As Call for Iraq Pullout Hits New Peak
NEW YORK For almost two years, President Bush has been threatening to unseat Richard M. Nixon as the most unpopular president in the history of the Gallup poll, and it finally happened this week. The latest USA TODAY/Gallup survey finds Bush with a 31% approval rating -- and for the first time ever in the polling history, 50% say they "strongly disapprove" of a president. The previous high (or low?) was a 48% strong disapproval rating for Nixon at the worst moments of Watergate in 1974. WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Department of Homeland Security will investigate a Halloween costume party hosted by a top immigration official and attended by a man dressed in a striped prison outfit, dreadlocks and darkened skin make-up, a costume some say is offensive, the department's secretary said. Julie Myers, head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and host of the fundraising party, was on a three-judge panel that originally praised the prisoner costume for "originality." .............

i am NOT preaching on a soapbox that women SHOULD have abortions. what i AM preaching is women MUST HAVE THE CHOICE
Pregnancy deaths increase after abortion ban in Nicaragua

David Edwards and Adam Doster
Under Nicaragua's no-exception abortion ban implemented last year, researchers say that at least three women have died because of complications during pregnancy, while 12 reported cases have yet been analyzed.

The Associated Press detailed the story of one victim, 22-year old Olga Reyes. In her case, the fetus grew outside of her uterus and was unable to survive, prompting excessive bleeding that eventually endangered the mother.

Reyes' husband expressed concern over the limitations Nicaraguan doctors face. "Doctors feel if they interrupt a pregnancy, their liscenses can be revoked," he said through a translator. "They are threatened."

The law was passed last year with support from institutions like the Roman Catholic Church, which asserts that medical advances, not abortion, can alleviate complications of pregnancy...............

it is THE best show on television. season five starts january 6th and it will be THE LAST season. it will focus on the media (other seasons focused on drug dealers, police, the school system, longshoremen, politicians and more). i JUST found out one of the journalists in the upcoming season will be played by tom mccarthy. who's he you ax? well he is an actor of course BUT he wrote and directed one of my favorite movies of all times; the station agent

Fans Await Closure of HBO's `The Wire'

By JAKE COYLEThe Associated Press
NEW YORK -- A fervent following is eagerly awaiting the final season of an HBO drama.
No, this story isn't a year old.
While the final hurrah of "The Sopranos" had the weight of a genuine cultural event, the last season of "The Wire" is a more cultish affair.
The longest-running dramatic series on HBO, "The Wire" will enter its fifth and final season on Jan. 6. In certain circles, this is already cause for nail-biting anticipation.
"Get on with it, mother- ..." wrote one fan on the HBO "Wire" message boards, quoting the abbreviated last words of one of the show's main characters.
"The Wire" has never been an easy sell. In its first four seasons, it has in gritty detail painted a novelistic picture of urban decay. Set in Baltimore, the show follows police and drug dealers, portraying the tiered bureaucracy to each side of the law.
"It's all in the game," is the show's oft-repeated mantra..........

.......At Slate.com, one of the bastions of "Wire" fandom and analysis, Jacob Weinberg wrote: "No other program has ever done anything remotely like what this one does, namely to portray the social, political and economic life an American city with scope, observational precision and moral vision of great literature.".........

Hell, it wasn't even me that Nowak stalked cross country and pepper-sprayed but I'd like to know where she is at all times; what if I'd accidentally scored some killer shoes on sale that she'd been eying? Fire alarms should accompany her every movement. This matters because Nowak's attorneys "in August filed a notice of intent to rely on an insanity defense, saying in court documents her diagnoses include a litany of more than a dozen psychiatric disorders." .........

The Tortured Vote of Feinstein on Mukasey: Disingenuous or Just Plain Dishonest?
Submitted by mark karlin
.............But what most disturbs us about the Feinstein pledge of support for Mukasey is a commentary she had published in the LA Times on November 3 providing the "rationale" for her vote. There’s only one big problem with Feinstein’s message to the voters; it’s specious at best.
Feinstein quotes Makasey to show how he is allegedly opposed to the Bush Administration using waterboarding:
"I do know ... that waterboarding cannot be used by the United States military because its use by the military would be a clear violation of the Detainee Treatment Act (DTA). That is because waterboarding and certain other coercive interrogation techniques are expressly prohibited by the Army Field Manual on Intelligence Interrogation, and Congress specifically legislated in the DTA that no person in the custody or control of the Department of Defense (DOD) or held in a DOD facility may be subject to any interrogation techniques not authorized and listed in the manual."
Then Feinstein comments, "As Judge Mukasey wrote, waterboarding is clearly against the law for the American military. Waterboarding is clearly prohibited by the Convention Against Torture and the Geneva Convention. It was again prohibited by the Detainee Treatment Act, which only covers military interrogations."
There’s the rub, Dianne, since "waterboarding" as apparently conducted by the Bush Administration is carried out by the CIA or "subcontractors," not technically by the Pentagon..............................

On the October 31 edition of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes, co-host Sean Hannity claimed that "Halloween is a liberal holiday" and "is teaching our kids to be liberals." Hannity explained that "we're teaching kids to knock on other people's doors and ask for a handout." Co-host Alan Colmes responded by asking if that meant that Christmas is a "liberal holiday." Colmes asserted that Halloween represents "the act of giving," and asked: "Isn't that a Christian thing, to give, to share with your community?" Hannity replied: "Not to teach your kids to beg for a handout."..........

Scores of Students Face Expulsion Due to Sit-inBerwyn, ILOver 70 students participated in a sit-in against the Iraq War on All Saint's Day, Thursday, November 1st. It began third hour when dozens of student gathered quietly in the lunchroom at Morton West High School and refused to leave. Administrators and police became involved immediately and locked down the school for a half hour after class ended. Students report that they were promised that there would be no consequences besides cutting classes if they took their protest outside so as not to disturb the school day. The students agreed and were led to a corner outside the cafeteria where they sang songs and held signs while classes resumed. "At first they tried to make us like leave the school, " said Jerry Petrack, who was with the protest from the beginning. Petracek refers to the massive walk-out for immigrant rights in 2006 as a guide for their actions. (
