i admired her

but i did not fully agree with her. my belief is; women as a whole cannot have their power taken from them unless they allow it. they allowed it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy back and we're still fighting to get it back (well SOME of us are, some don't give a flyin' yoo hoo and another portion never wanted their equality and never will). thanks for stepping up to the plate back in the day though. your voice counted

MARILYN FRENCH, 79 Controversial Feminist Author Known for 'The Women's Room'
Washington Post Staff Writer

Marilyn French, 79, a feminist whose 1977 debut novel "The Women's Room" sold more than 20 million copies and who became a prominent thinker on women's history, died of a heart ailment May 2 at a New York City hospital.

Ms. French, an erudite and angry writer, blamed men for the condition of women throughout the centuries, a stance that brought her sharply divided critical attention. Although many feminists lauded her for writing one of the most influential novels of the emerging feminist movement, others outside the movement charged that her books were belligerent and artless.

"In a way, 'The Women's Room' was, to a particular part of the women's movement, what Ralph Ellison's 'Invisible Man' was to the civil rights community," feminist Gloria Steinem said yesterday. "She was always so far ahead because she wasn't writing about reforms around the edges. Her theories were big and exciting, and they definitely appeal to younger women who hear about them."........

i'm not a big fan of

naomi wolf and i'm even less of a fan of helen gurley brown. have you ever actually READ a cosmo? i haven't seen one in years and years (are they still published, i don't know?). they were absolutely insulting to women back in the day.

oh shite, there still IS a cosmo. i looked it up. what is one of the cover articles (at least on line) you ask?
'quiz: do guys think you're sexy?'.

my answers to the quiz are;
#1) who gives a flying shite
#2) do you WANT to be sexy
#3) if yes to #2, do YOU think YOU are sexy?
#4) if yes to #3, that's good enough

neither of you speak for me and i hope the majority of women

(it's just a book review, but geeze, like i said, who gives a flying f**k about helen gurley brown. she calls us 'girls' for goddess' sake. she wants us to take money for sex for goddess' sake)

and how DARE you compare or say michelle obama is who she is because of helen gurley brown. that's is an INSULT

Who Won Feminism?

Look at Michelle Obama: She has segued seamlessly from an active professional life as a highly paid hospital executive to her current incarnation as fashion plate, doting mom and demure sex object, posing for Vogue in a hot fuchsia frock that shows plenty of skin. What's most surprising about this metamorphosis? How few people are objecting to it.

Every other first lady in living memory has been flattened into some stereotype of either/or femininity -- from Nancy Reagan as adoring Stepford wife to Hillary Clinton as shrill career woman. But now we finally seem to have reached the point where women don't face a false choice between sacrificing their softer qualities to be taken seriously as professionals or embracing love, sensuality, fashion and pleasure only to be dismissed as frivolous. And this revolutionary development isn't unfolding just in the White House: It's now affecting your house and mine. It's everywhere......

two-faced steamin' pieces of shite

i am not violent but i sure as shite want to bitch slap this piece of crap. i wouldn't do it, but i can dream about it and smile.
hey rodgers, sarevil is about as feminist as anita bryant is). this dude wouldn't know feminism if it came up and castrated him (that's a JOKE peeps. see 'we' DO have a sense of humor)

(the little weenie bastards???????????????? indeed)

KSFO's Rodgers said many "professed leaders of the feminist movement" are "hags" who "couldn't get laid in a men's prison"

On the October 17 broadcast of San Francisco radio station KSFO's The Lee Rodgers Show, Rodgers said: "[Y]ou look at many -- perhaps most -- but many of the women who are professed leaders of the feminist movement in this country, and they're a bunch of hags." He added: "They couldn't get laid in a men's prison, let's be honest about it."

Earlier in the segment, Rodgers said that "not only has Sarah Palin achieved what a lot of traditional feminists have always said they wanted -- a woman who can do it all, raise a family, take care of kids, succeed in her chosen career -- yeah, you would think, if they were consistent in their principles, they would be applauding her. She has done what they said they wanted women to be able to do. She's done it." Rodgers went on to assert that "the reason a lot of these women, these liberal women, hate her, is not only because she chose not to have an abortion, went ahead and had her last baby knowing that the child was going to have Down syndrome, and she's 'I don't care.' " Rodgers later added: "[M]ost of all, they resent the fact that she's good-lookin' on top of all of that. She's good-lookin'."........

huh?

i thought time was better than this. why in this goddess' earth would they publish a heapin' pile o' shite like luscombe's article? why i ask you?

women (with a BRAIN and a HEART and a SOUL) don't like sarevil because she would ban choice, she supports abstinance only education (which CLEARLY DOESN'T WORK AS YOU CAN SEE FROM HER OWN FAMILY), she thinks her god WANTS us in iraq, she loves big oil, she's not too intelligent (although you do have to give her a point for being a master of misdirection). there are way more reasons but this will do for now.

hey luscombe YOU are feeding into the common myths about women.

TIME: Women who don't support Palin are just jealous little girls

You have got to be kidding me.

I almost thought this was a spoof article, but soon realized that TIME magazine author Belinda Luscombe is quite serious about her contention of why women aren't supporting Sarah Palin: 'cause when it comes to politics, we're all just struggling with our inner catty schoolgirls:

Here's why Palin doesn't make the grade:

1. She's too pretty. This is very bad news. At school, pretty girls tend to be liked only by other pretty girls. The rest of us, whose looks hover somewhere around underwhelming, resent them and whisper archly of their "unearned attention." So, if everyone calls your candidate "hot," you're in a whole mess of trouble. If the Pakistani head-of-state more or less hits on her, well, yes, she'll get a sympathy vote, but we're in Dukakis-in-the-tank territory. It's an admiration vaporizer. (Of course a candidate can't be too ugly, or it will scare the men, who are clearly shallow as a gender.)

2. She's too confident. This also bodes ill. Women have self-esteem issues. But they also have other-women's-esteem issues. As almost any woman -- from the head of the Budgerigar Breeders association to Queen Elizabeth -- can attest, it's almost impossible to get confidence right. Too timid and you're a pushover. Too self-aggrandizing and you're a bad word unless it's about a dog, or Project Runway's Kenley. Or Michelle, my best friend until 9th grade, after she won that debating prize and got cocky..........

Lipstick on a Wing Nut

Subject to Debate

By Katha Pollitt

John McCain chose the supremely under-qualified Sarah Palin as his running mate partly because she is a woman. If you have a problem with that, you're a sexist. She talks incessantly about being a mother of five and uses her newborn, Trig, who has Down syndrome, as a campaign prop. If you wonder how she'll handle all those kids and the Veep job too, you're a super-sexist. "When do they ever ask a man that question?" charges that fiery feminist Rudy Giuliani. Indeed, Palin, who went back to work when Trig was three days old, gets nothing but praise from Phyllis Schlafly, James Dobson and the folks at National Review, who usually blame all the ills of modern America on those neurotic, harried, selfish, frustrated, child-neglecting, husband-castrating working mothers. Even stranger, her five-months-pregnant 17-year-old, Bristol, gets nothing but compassion and respect from Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh and others who have spent their careers slut-shaming teens for having sex--and blaming their parents for letting it happen. ...........

...............

Count me as a feminist who never believed that being PTA president meant you could be, well, President. The more time we spend on dippy ruminations--how does she do it? Queen Bee on steroids or the hockey mom next door? how hot is Todd, anyway?--the less focus there will be on the kind of queries that should come first with any vice presidential candidate, and certainly would if Palin were a man. Questions like:

§ Suppose your 14-year-old daughter Willow is brutally raped in her bedroom by an intruder. She becomes pregnant and wants an abortion. Could you tell the parents of America why you think your child and their children should be forced by law to have their rapists' babies?

§ You say you don't believe global warming is man-made. Could you tell us what scientists you've spoken with or read who have led you to that conclusion? What do you think the 2,500 scientists of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change are getting wrong?

§ If you didn't try to fire Wasilla librarian Mary Ellen Baker over her refusal to consider censoring books, why did you try to fire her?

§ What is the European Union, and how does it function?...................

Zombie feminists of the RNC

How did Sarah Palin become a symbol of women's empowerment? And how did I, a die-hard feminist, end up terrified at the idea of a woman in the White House?

By Rebecca Traister

Sept. 11, 2008 | I have been dreaming about Sarah Palin. (Apparently, I'm not alone.) I wish I could say that I'd been conjuring witty, politically sophisticated nightmares in which she leads troops into Vancouver or kindergartners in the recitation of "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God." But, alas, mine have been nonsensical, kiddie-style doozies in which she kidnaps my cats, or enjoys a meal with my girlfriends while I bang on the restaurant window. There's also a chilling one, in which a scary witch stands on a wind-swept hill and leers at me.

What troubles me most -- aside from the fact that there is suddenly a Republican candidate potent enough to so ensnare my psyche -- is my sense that these are dreams in which it matters very much that Palin is a woman.........

.............

Welcome to 2008, the year a tough, wonky woman won a primary (lots of them, actually), an inspiring black man secured his party's nomination for the presidency, and a television talking head felt free to opine that a woman is qualified for executive office because he wants to bed her and have her watch his kids! Stop the election; I want to get off.

What Palin so seductively represents, not only to Donny Deutsch but to the general populace, is a form of feminine power that is utterly digestible to those who have no intellectual or political use for actual women. It's like some dystopian future ... feminism without any feminists.

Palin's femininity is one that is recognizable to most women: She's the kind of broad who speaks on behalf of other broads but appears not to like them very much. The kind of woman who, as Jessica Grose at Jezebel has eloquently noted, achieves her power by doing everything modern women believed they did not have to do: presenting herself as maternal and sexual, sucking up to men, evincing an absolute lack of native ambition, instead emphasizing her luck as the recipient of strong male support and approval. ..........

Except for Her Anatomical Features, Clinton is No Feminist. But George Wallace Would be Proud of Her Today.

BUZZFLASH EDITOR'S BLOG
by Mark Karlin
Editor and Publisher

Maybe we are naive, but we have always thought of progressivism -- in its ideal form -- as gender neutral. Men and women, people of all faiths and colors join together to promote the common good, peace and justice.

BuzzFlash has long championed the equality of people regardless of race, gender or religion.

So, as a male, it has taken me by surprise that so many avowed "Feminists" support Hillary Clinton merely because she has the anatomical features of a woman, when her policies and political style more closely mirror the more detestable side of "male" politics.

Does a true Feminist support "obliterating Iran"? Senator Clinton didn't even discuss the complexities behind the whole notion of Iran hypothetically attacking Israel, an ally with enough nuclear capability to "obliterate" the entire Middle East on its own. In short, wasn't it more Texas macho (think Bush and the Neo-Cons) for Clinton to offer her "obliterate" comment than reassuring Feminist diplomacy?..........

...................

Wouldn't a Feminist have voted for the banning of cluster bombs in civilian areas, instead of for their continued use in populated communities, where they particularly kill children?

Wouldn't a Feminist be supporting MoveOn.org's anti-war work and party activists for peace instead of denouncing them as extemists?

Would a Feminist have stood by and said nothing during the slaughter in Rwanda?

Would a Feminist have sat back and let the Bush Administration run roughshod through our civil liberties?

Would a Feminist, today, May 8th, channel the ghost of George Wallace and openly run as the candidate of "white" people "who are hard-working" (as compared to those "other" non-white ones -- we are to assume -- who are not)............

oh my goddess

don't ya just want to bitch slap them from here to there? (figuratively of course)

who listens to this shite? who reads this shite? you know, i really don't think ann bloodclot and flush limburger believe themselves (now come on, how the hell COULD they possibly???????). i think they're out for a buck and the only way they can get that buck (AND attention mind you) is to make complete id-jits and asswipes of themselves. at that, they EXCEL
Limbaugh: "[A] lot of these feminists and women ... think they're owed" a Clinton win; "they've had two or three abortions"
On the April 1 edition of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh said of a potential Hillary Clinton presidency, "[Y]ou have to understand the mindset of a lot of these feminists and women. They think they're owed this -- just like Obama supporters think they're owed this." Limbaugh continued: "These women have paid their dues. They've been married two or three times; they've had two or three abortions; they've done everything that feminism asked them to do. They have cut men out of their lives; they have devoted themselves to causes and careers. And this -- the candidacy of Hillary Clinton -- is the culmination of all of these women's efforts." He further stated: "And if it gets stolen from them, in their minds -- not actually stolen, but if the country or if the Democrat [sic] Party rejects this wonderfully great, lying woman in exchange for a rookie, radical black guy who can't tell the time of day, they are going to be so miffed. They are going to be so upset."
Limbaugh went on to claim: "[T]his is what the Democrat Party has sown ... The blacks one part of the constituency, the women another part. And both of them think they're owed this by the party, and if whoever doesn't get this -- the Hillary side, the Obama side -- they're going to think the party screwed them." .........

Ann Coulter Sort of Compares Obama's First Book to Hitler's 'Mein Kampf'
By Dave Astor

NEW YORK In her latest column, conservative firebrand Ann Coulter sort of compares Barack Obama's first book to Adolf Hitler's "Mein Kampf."The piece, posted starting last night on Coulter's Web site, is headlined "Obama's Dimestore 'Mein Kampf.'" Coulter says of the Democratic candidate's "Dreams From My Father" autobiography: "Has anybody read this book? Inasmuch as the book reveals Obama to be a flabbergasting lunatic, I gather the answer is no. Obama is about to be our next president: You might want to take a peek. If only people had read 'Mein Kampf.'"The weekly Universal Press Syndicate columnist goes on to slam Obama for the complaints about racism he included in his 1995 book. "Forget Rev. Jeremiah Wright -- Wright is Booker T. Washington compared to this guy," Coulter concludes.Back in 2005, Coulter was among the many conservatives criticizing U.S. Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) for using a Nazi comparison when discussing America's treatment of Guantanamo prisoners.......

are you a feminist crafter?

if so, why don't you contact pinup chick over at etsy

here's part of her reason(s) why:

.....I'm interested in studying crafting as a resistance mechanism: in the age of mass-production, corporate mega-profits and the resulting unethical production practices such as the use of sweatshop labor, crafting (and buying handmade goods) stands in opposition to the unethical labor and production practices of certain large corporations. Feminism is a natural extension of this, as historically textile work, sewing and needlecrafts have been located within the sphere of women. And now, crafters (some motivated by feminism), are reclaiming the once domestic significations of handicrafts as both liberating and pleasurable, and embracing this new domesticity as a form of feminist resistance and subversion.
Crafting as a form of feminist resistance is being examined by a few other scholars, but as far as I know, I am the only one looking specifically at Etsy and the crafts production and marketing cycle. Because craftwork provides an alternative to mass-production, I believe that buying and selling handmade goods is a politically subversive act that allows for a fair, equitable, and ethical form of capitalism. Ultimately, the handmade movement can help create positive social change. .......

what a downright stupid thing to say, to think

and to actually write down. NO decision like this, THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA should be made based on gender. it ABSOLUTELY should be made on WHO THE HELL CAN DO THE BEST JOB of RUNNING OUR COUNTRY. hillary cannot. i don't trust her and i don't think she did or is doing ANYTHING to get us out of iraq. i don't like her. i WILL NOT vote for her. don't demean me OR my gender by printing this shite

Young Feminists Split: Does Gender Matter?

Washington Post Staff Writer

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The two students walked on the same paths across campus here this week, past the dormitory where Hillary Rodham lived for four years, past two dozen framed portraits of groundbreaking women in Alumnae Hall, past the banners on the quad proclaiming "Wellesley: Women Who Will." But Katie Chanpong and Aubre Carreon Aguilar -- feminists and political activists -- arrived at contradictory conclusions.

"If you're a woman, you vote for Hillary because of what it means to women everywhere," said Chanpong, a sophomore.

Carreon Aguilar, a senior, said: "If I'm supposed to vote for Hillary just because I'm a woman, that's kind of sexist.".......

eye openeing

and ms valenti catches mr lubrano. i guess mr lubrano claimes FEMINISTS dig stripper poles in frat houses. he claims they (the feminists) think the poles are EMPOWERING. ms valenti points out the ONLY woman mr lubrano quotes in his article is a woman that works for the company that MAKES THE STRIPPER POLES.
(speaking of which i haven't seen my favorite stripper in a LONG time. i miss her hankerchief wearing self! - she wears hankerchiefs in lieu of real clothing. no, not at the club, OUT IN PUBLIC. keep your fingers crossed. perhaps i'll run into her today. i need to get a camcorder. i did have quite the adventure LAST sunday. what with the fireman, the ex-pro hockey player and the half dominican half spaniard. i could just kick myself for not having something to record that day. my sundays get me through the whole rest of the week)

Feminism responsible for frat-house stripper poles

Why is it that feminism is always blamed for tacky sexist trends?
College fraternities, long known as bastions of grace and decorum, are these days featuring yet one more accoutrement of scholastic refinement - the stripper pole.
The most important campus development since the keg, the stripper pole shines like a luminous totem festooning the halls of the American academy. It's erected for a single, glorious purpose:
To get drunken chicks to do slutty stuff.
And where does feminism come in?
Post-feminists argue that the pole is empowering. If a young woman chooses to use it, they say, she is telling the world that she is in charge of her sexuality............
